In 1989, John Sutch took the leap from crane driver to entrepreneur, establishing a legacy that has stood the test of time. Today, with 36 years under his belt and a fleet of 35 cranes, the business continues to deliver exceptional service to companies across the country.
In 2024, the company's 35th year of trading, the fleet stands at 36 cranes, but Sutch’s are going further with more investment. The growth is expected to continue to be poured into our ever-expanding fleet with another five or six in the pipeline.
Liverpool lads have a reputation for backing themselves in delivery and this is a business that epitomises that – John is a man, despite entering his 72nd year last month (June) and five and a half decades operating cranes, who has the same appetite for work and the cut and thrust of business as he did when he put his house against his first crane, which is baby-like in comparison to what he’s got now.
The Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 sits pride of place in our yard as our biggest single investment, but like any crane operator, we started with one and one soon became two and now we have a massive fleet packed with cranes, wagons, hiabs, vans and cars.
It’s not all been plain lifting for John Sutch cranes, he’s steered the business through three recessions and a COVID recession where construction as well as the world came to a halt. But in true John Sutch Cranes fashion the business kept building and delighting our clients - something we’ve been doing year after year after year.
Essentially a family run business, John Sutch Cranes employs nearly 100 members of staff. The company has achieved significant increase of market share within specific growth sectors including power stations, green energy and healthcare. In 2017 we purchased four new cranes including the Terex AC250-5 and the Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2. But that has been increased with the recent purchase of its big brother, what we call the ‘450’, not forgetting the Tadano HK4.050-1.
