John Sutch Cranes, one of the UK’s leading nationwide crane hire businesses, has played its part in the future delivery of one of South Yorkshire’s biggest schemes with the erection of the large WOLFF 355 B Luffing Jib Tower Crane out on site for its European client.
The Sheffield Forgemasters scheme, delivered by VINCI Building , received a big boost this Christmas as John Sutch Cranes stepped in to construct the crane on behalf of our client WOLFFKRAN.
And just in time for festive period, the first of two cranes to be in action on the scheme, has been expertly constructed by the Liverpool and Manchester based crane hire company, John Sutch Cranes.
The process began with the preparation of the foundations to anchor the cranes securely, followed by the delivery and vertical assembly of modular tower sections using our high-capacity Grove GMK6300L mobile crane.
This complex operation, carried out under tight safety standards, set the stage for the efficient handling of heavy materials in the £138m project to construct the UK’s largest open-die forging facility.
The crane, which is now in position thanks to our expert John Sutch Crane hire team will be used to construct the press pit foundations – a key element in the works – a 40-metre-high superstructure, erect gantries, chimneys and redistribute materials.
The second WOLFF 355 B is part of an overall £2.5m investment and will be owned outright by contractor VINCI.
It will be on site in the middle of 2025, and both will be working until early 2026.
Paul Parry, Sales Director at John Sutch Cranes, said: “We were delighted to be hired to help and be a part of such a landmark project at Sheffield Forgemasters.
"The erection of the WOLFF 355 B crane required precise planning, expert engineering, and real coordination to ensure the operation was executed safely and efficiently. These cranes are a testament to modern lifting technology, but to get them up takes skill and precision from the mobile crane industry – and that’s why we delivered the job.”
